I have been a member of the Scienceinsport.com ladies racing team since 2004. In the last year, their backing (of me, and the ladies team in general) has increased. The company, based in Lancashire, provide me with free sports nutrition product, racing kit, and access to discount on cycling equipment. They have also subsidised some of my travel expenses to National events. I couldn’t do any of this without their support.

The TriStore are my local bike shop in Eastbourne. Lawrence Neill, the store owner, has been unrelenting in his support of my aims. As well as securing my deal with Specialized (see below), the store also provide me with mechanical / servicing work on my bike and associated equipment.
Dr Nick Webborn is one of the most respected Sports Medics in the country, working with the GB Paralympian team for some years now. Nick owns a practice, Sportswise, based within the buildings of the University of Brighton. Sportswise provide me with physiotherapy treatment when needed as well as covering my private medical insurance.
I ride Zipp wheels for my time trial racing – the choice of many Pro Tour teams. These were provided to me at discounted rates by Ciclismo UK.
I met Uli Schroberer, the inventor of the ground breaking SRM power measuring system, through my work. His company now provide me with discounted parts and servicing of the power cranks.
The TriStore secured me a place on the Specialized Athlete scheme which entitles me to free helmet, shoes, socks, sunglasses and gloves – all the little things that add up!

Being ranked top 10 in the country has qualified me for the ‘Free Access for National Sports People’ scheme. I can now use all local authority facilities for free which has been highly beneficial to me, especially for my supplementary gym training.
Each year, I spend some of my winter weeks in Majorca and, more recently, Lanzarote helping on training camps. This is thanks to the tour operator Sports Tours International. My role is to present evening seminars on training, nutrition, and race preparation as well as helping as a group ride leader. In 2007, I hosted a women’s bike week at Club La Santa, combining my experience as a cyclist with my professional role as a Sport Scientist.
Lucy-Ann Prideaux is a qualified nutritionist. Because of her interest in sport and background as a triathlete, she has made the ideal expert for me to consult when it comes to perfecting my diet for my training and racing needs. Check out her website for recipe ideas, and cookery workshops!
This coming season, I will be riding the new USE ‘Tula’ tri-bar in my time-trialling – and this is thanks to the company and their sponsored athlete rate. The bars reportedly save 15W – let’s hope so!
At last, I am riding THE dream bike - a Cervelo P3. A big thank you to Madison UK for supplying me these through the SIS team. I say 'these' because just had to get a P3 frame for my track racing too! Recovery is the name of the game, as I am discovering for myself in my now part-time status! And, thanks to Mike Trees at 2xU UK, this is even more optimal wearing their recovery tights!

I’d like to take this opportunity (and space) to also thank Courtney Rowe at Newport Velodrome for always being accommodating with my need for track time. It’s a great facility!
While I am at it, due thanks should be given to my masseur (and bike mechanic at the TriStore) ‘Undies’. He keeps my legs in check at a ‘special friends rate’ and it’s much appreciated (my legs complain if I miss a week!). You can contact Simon at

to ask about all matters bike, or to book your legs in for a service! Alistair McLean was the ideal man to provide me with decals for my bikes - an artist who specialises in custom re-sprays for motorbikes, helmets, and you name it! - who also happens to be a bit of an expert biker 'in his day' too.
Last, but by no means least, a big thank you must go to my coach and mentor Julia Armstrong. She has completely revolutionised my attitude and beliefs to training and competition, as well as being a top class advisor on my whole life journey. From lifestyle coaching, through sports coaching and counselling, Julia has the expertise. |
